Nikima Jagudajev (1990) is an artist and choreographer based in Brussels. Their work develops out of collaborative worldbuilding where play becomes a method of encounter and experimentation. Through unexpected infrastructures such as a giant puzzle, snacks, naps, cards, sewing, and cross-stitching, they subvert institutional codes and create shifting social spaces. Their studio practice, which they call “reschooling,” places both serious and frivolous play at the center: a collaborative, messy, deviant, and transformative approach.
Like is Jagudajev’s new project, a hybrid documentary / video game set in the made up world of Basically: one of their flagship performance works. Basically is a living installation that unfolds as a hybrid universe combining live music, non-linear choreography, and playful rituals. The space is constantly reconfigured, traversed by performers and visitors who become actors in this porous world. Presented notably at WIELS in Brussels and at Mumok in Vienna, the work reinvents itself in each context. Thus, offering a stroll through this universe, in the form of a playable documentary using hours of footage of live performances, the objective of Like is to follow six characters (performers) evolving through different actions and heartfelt reflection. The spectator will not experience the stories in a linear manner, because at one point or another, while following the unfolding of a story, they will be immersed in a playable 3D landscape.
